The Piriápolis's founder is Francisco Piria, who was also the founder of more than 70 neighbourhoods all over the country. He was a great entrepreneur who started as a finisher and then sells Parcels at Montevideo which forms much of what was then his fortune.

In Piriápolis built the Hotel Argentino, the Piria's castle and the Piria's palace at Montevideo, in addition to others .

Piriápolis is now a great tourist spot in Uruguay, mainly for its incredible board walk but also the history of the city attracts Uruguayans and foreigners. Has a Permanent Population but at season have a temporal significant increases of that population (from December to March).In addition to the Hotel Argentino is a wide range of hotels which are in charge of hosting this population increase each summer.

On the beach of clear waters and white sand takes place events during the summer to entertain the tourists.

Piriápolis is surrounded by hills, such as "Pan de Azucar" hill , the "Cerro del Toro" hill and the "San Antonio" hill. The Hill that is nearest of the beach is "San Antonio" hill, which seen from the beach seems to be on the same beach. This Hill can be climbed in 2 ways: 1 in a vehicle (example: a car) on a road, or 2 ° by the "aero-chairs" (chairs that hang from a rail) which allow you to see great scenery without getting out of the chair and at the same time climb the hill.

Then at the top of the hill San Antonio you can see a vast landscape, also you can see other hills such as "Pan de Azúcar" , the entire beach and board-walk and all the houses of the neighbourhood. In addition to that there are some restaurants at the top of the hill, so you can have lunch and watch the Landscape.

Sunsets are spectacular in Piriápolis because the sun sets in the middle of the horizon in front of the beach, demonstrating that special place is situated the city.

We also recommend to visit the fauna reserve of the hill "Pan de Azúcar", the city park called "La Cascada" and take a guided tour of the Piria's Castle . You can also enjoy a good fishing on the ocean shore.
